General Pants - DIY DJing and Insta-Pics; NEW In-Store Kiosks.

Wednesday evening Street Fashion Sydney attended the launch of the new in-store Kiosks at General Pants Co. in Bondi Junction. Fellow Blogger Vivienne (vivalaViv) and I arrived a little later in the evening than we would have really liked and as such missed out on the speeches and demo of the all-new iPad-cluster-Kiosk. This however was no real problem at all as one of the General Pants crew was quick to assist us as soon as we approached the HiTec goodies on the lovely wooden desk. In a nutshell, this is what you get; networked iPads that allow you to grab a selfie of some of the great gear the General Pants stores (GP) have on offer and via that selfie uploaded to the network; get instant (well one hopes) feedback from other users at GP Kiosks all across the land.

I like this idea and I am going to gloss over the idea that cool in one 'hood' may not be in another but I do think it is a pretty cool idea. You can also email the image you created to your email address at which point in time you can do what you like with it. I found this a pretty strange concept (not being able to instagram or facebook direct from the GP kiosk) as clearly the idea is to have you facebooking and instagraming the HELL out of GP; what you get is an email with your image and a polite request to #hashtag the shots with #instaopinion and #generalpants when you use them. Not being super android savvy I found it impossible to 'grab' the shot from my email until I got onto my laptop, and not before being shanghaied to the GP website by clicking on 'my' picture. Not sure that's quite the right approach guys..

Want to have an impact on the mood of the store while you are there? Don't leave the Kiosk; You can be the DJ, just select your tracks and log them in; even gives you 'how long' till your track will play. Now that is thoughtful, if only they had that on the jukebox at the pub! Of course the iPads also let you cruse the GP website and its 'curated' looks, what's Hot.. and not just in-store. Certainly a trend at the moment and had me wondering if business is not moving to corporatising the bloggers role; no doubt it is. This is not a sponsored post.. But, of course what I want is to shoot a campaign for General Pants, C'mon Guys lets talk! Lets hope so!

Riding the Buses - Pinks in Layers and Hues - City Road Newtown.

Flora again; this time riding the 426 into the city or there about. No we are not stalking each other but we were both on our way to see some art shows. Lots of pinks mixed with white and smidgeon of green and blue. "Oh Flora that's a great outfit, let me grab a shot right here on the bus"! And perfect late afternoon light filtering in through the windows as the bus rolled down City Road.

Men in Florals on Black - Spring Summer Shirts and Shorts.

Spotted a few weeks ago at Martin Browne Contemporary this pairing of colourful leaves and flowers on black was too good to let slip by; especially with that fabulous Reuben Paterson artwork as a background.  as a former student of Reuben's can there be any doubt that this outfit was carefully selected just for the show. The other thing that struck me was that the fabrics looked so similar to some of the Three Over One range I had just photographed for their web site; no the outfit was not from them though it was purchased along Oxford Street somewhere..  I have dropped a shot of the aforementioned below so you can see where I am coming from.

What they Wore to the Emporio Armani - National Art School - Postgraduate Show 2013.

Or the Emporio Armani - National Art School - Postgraduate Show 2013, Blog Part 1... which opened on the first of November making this blog post perhaps more than a little overdue.. and while I do go to openings to check out the work it's impossible for me to not check out what people are wearing as well. An event like a post grad show at a major art institution is certainly the perfect creative hub, not just for the art but for the art of dressing as well; (and great to have Fashion with a capital F, Emporio Armani sponsoring ART here in Australia).. so here are a few pictures of outfits that caught my eye, for some reason the views of quite a few of the outfits are from behind: just seemed to be right on the night!

Part 2 - The Emporio Armani Commission, Alexander Jackson Wyatt’s Legend Labyrinth:

"Legend Labyrinth: An Appendix on Entrances is conceived of as an analysis of design and design’s social contexts in the urban environment. The work takes the form of an immersive and interactive installation including photo-documentary material gathered during the two-week residency Jackson Wyatt underwent in Milan as part of the Commission." http://www.nas.edu.au/NASGallery/Previous-Exhibitions

I first met Alexander when he was exhibiting an installation work at SNO back in October 2011 so it was great to be invited to the opening of his Legend Labyrinth on the 30th of May this year and celebrate with the first recipient of the Emporio Armani Commission.

Black Lace and Sandstone at the NAS Darlinghurst..

I grabbed this twilight shot of 'self style' blogger Vivienne Shui at the Emporio Armani - National Art School - Postgraduate show a couple of weeks back. OK a little more than a couple of weeks back! A dedicated blog post is coming I promise! It's just around the corner, really.. Love the old sandstone buildings of NAS, love Vivienne's black lace dress and love that Emporio Armani are sponsoring ART in Australia - more about that too in the net blog post; for now here's Vivienne and her is her blog if you would like to follow her too at vivalaViv.

Emerging Fashion Design - Kelly by Kelly at Sylvia Chan Paddington.

It would seem that beautiful fashion design runs in the family; Kelly Chan, niece of Sylvia has now launched her eponymous label Kelly (with a heart shaped logo) by Kelly Chan. I dropped by Sylvia's showroom during the William Street Festival a few weeks ago, met with Kelly and had a bit of a chat about her new collection which at the moment is a series of to-die-for tops in beautiful sheer/floaty/patterned fabrics. And I certainly had the feeling that like Sylvia's, Kelly's pieces 'BLACK WHITE' will be more of a one-off nature than mass produced fashion! The best way to see just what 'Kelly' is all about is to drop into the store at 20 William St, Paddington take a look and say Hello!

It's all about the Colours Coordinated - Newtown Sydney.

Indeed it is all about the colours coordinated as artist Flora explained to me; "I grew up in Athens in the 80's and you could see everything in the street"; "and you couldn't get into a club unless you had something different". And Flora's style is coordinated right down to the Rastafarian stripes on her headphones. Pinks and greens  with a blue grey 'Harem pants' in-between.. even the matching green string bag and the contents are working it!

Men's Spring Style - Lightweight jacket Stripes and Hat..

This great Spring/Summer men's outfit was spotted on Thursday evening at the Emporio Armani National Art School Postgraduate Exhibition 2013 (more on the NAS PostGrad show and Emporio Armani liaison coming in a separate post soon).. Love the hat, the colour contrast highlighted with the red bandanna, or neckerchief if you prefer.. the unstructured jacket, jeans with rolled cuffs and brogue-ish boots and a man-bag tote for all your stuff; a perfect blend of creative casual styled just right.
