Windsor Smith Celebrates 70 years at #HarbourLife Sydney 2016.

Founded in Melbourne in 1946 I suppose every Aussie has a Windsor Smith shoe story and I certainly have a few. They have been a go-to fashion shoe for me, especially in my late teens and early 20s and the ranges for men and women continue to excite expectation while looking great and providing affordable quality and style to this day. So to say I was pretty chuffed to be a VIP guest at their 70th 'birthday' party is something of an understatement. Held in a special marquee at Harbour Life, Sydney's gorgeous Botanic Gardens with the Opera House and 'Coathanger' as the perfect scenic backdrop.. Thank You WINDSOR SMITH for all the great shoes and keeping me stylishly on my feet on more nights out than I can possibly ever remember. What more can I say other than thanks for a killer party; Happy Happy Birthday and many more to come!

Ethical Fashion & Accessories #EastsideSydney.

On Tuesday evening Vivienne vivialaViv Shui & I headed over to Hotel 57 in Foveaux Street Surry Hills for the Ethical Fashion Experience which was a gathering together of mostly local labels who have incorporated the important, social and ethical aspects of manufacturing into their designs.  I met and spoke with principles behind three of the four labels on show. Jimmy wearing that amazing jacket below who was introducing the UK designed Zimbabwe-made-wire-frame Wires Sunglasses range (Click the links for more details). Citizen Wolf's - Tailored Organic Tees, Zoltan Csaki who informed me they purchase all their organic Jersey from a mill in Melbourne - That's right AUSTRALIA you still make something! Vivienne and I also spoke with Finnish/ Australian-trained Enmore Design School Jeweller and business owner who's pieces are made in a workshop in SE Asia; she has visited and seen herself there are no children working, everything is above board and the craftspeople are paid properly.  I also met Sydney sculptor Daniel Dominguez who sculpted the fabulous heads the were used as the display busts for the Wires sunnies. While we missed out on meeting with Mighty Good Undies I can see from their website that they are onto a pretty good thing too. So check them all out - if only all fashion and accessories were made with such good intent for the maker and the consumer. Well done guys, keep up the good work.

COMA - New Art & Gallery in Rushcutters Bay.

There seem to have been a few new galleries opening in the Inner East area this year. A few of which have been covered here on Street Fashion Sydney, most recently The New Standard, and now we have COMA tucked down on a little island in Rushcutters Bay, in the new concrete box apartment block construction opposite the 'Vibe' hotel just down from Elvis Pizza. I made a special-directions-collage below so you can't possibly miss it. It's minimal all the way! Back to the launch, there was a lovely mix of sculpture, painting, collage, prints and some drawing. I have to say that I certainly enjoyed the works on show and the oftentimes erotically interpreted theme for this, opening group show True love Over Physics.. Head on down & check it out!

Click! 2016 Photography Show at Badger & Fox Gallery.

I'm in a SHOW - but it's not all about me. The Click! 2016 Photography Exhibition kicked off in great style on Thursday night at Badger & Fox gallery with a strong attendance from the Sydney photographic community and an opening speech by Gael Newton. This year the exhibition is drawn from the Badger & Fox photography collection of Australian and International photographers, along with works by a selection of  local photographers that have caught owner/curator Peter Maddison's eye; Brett Hilder, Vivianna Barrero, MikiNobu Komatsu, Peter Maddison and myself, Kent Johnson.

The show is divide across three rooms and the stairway and loosely from vintage and 'historical' photography - original prints - through to major contemporary photography; well they are all orginal prints! If you are new to photography and wonder what classic photography looks like, this is a great show to see a good chunk of the history of photography in one place in one afternoon. Gael spoke about the transition of photography from being seen as an applied art or trade to it becoming an accepted art form in major institutional galleries, and also praised Peter for the quality of the work on show and his unswerving eye for exceptional photography. Weekends only 11 to 5 201 Albion St Surry Hills untill Nov 27.
